The Village of East Alton is currently working toward upgrades to the East Alton Water Plant, along with water mains, throughout the village. Construction of the Water System Improvements are being financed in part by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This project includes a new well, water treatment plant upgrades, and water distribution system improvements. Once complete, it will improve water quality, increase water treatment capacity, and remove some lead service lines in the village. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities with the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water. Additional funding for the project includes a $1.517M grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and a $5M grant from the Environmental Protection Agency Community Grant Program. Construction is expected to start in late June 2026.
Republic Services is the proud provider for the Village of East Alton.
