Trash and recycling collection in East Alton is now fully managed by Republic Services, a trusted provider with decades of experience in waste management. This partnership ensures reliable service, improved efficiency, and long-term sustainability for our community.

Cart: Each household has a 95-gallon rolling trash cart provided by Republic Services.

Bulk Items: Each household receives two free bulk pickups per year.
To schedule a bulk pickup, call Republic Services at 618-656-6883. -
Additional Carts: If you would like a second trash cart, please contact Republic Services to order one. Delivery and quarterly fees apply.

Cart: Residents should continue using the light blue 65-gallon recycling carts previously provided by the Village.

🌿 Yard Waste & Drop-Off Center

Yard Waste Pickup: Still handled by the East Alton Street Department, with no changes.

💰 Service Rate
Residential trash service is billed at $44.00 bimonthly. The trash charges will still be included in your East Alton Water Department billing as usual, unless you have additional carts, which are billed quarterly by Republic Services.

💡 About Republic Services
Republic Services is one of the nation’s largest waste and recycling providers, serving over 14 million customers. Their commitment to safety, reliability, and sustainability helps keep East Alton clean and environmentally responsible.
🧾 Why the Change?
For many years, East Alton managed its own trash collection in-house. However, with rising operational costs, a $1.5 million drop in tax revenue, and over $153,000 in losses from trash service alone over a four-year period, continuing the in-house model was no longer financially sustainable.
To protect residents and maintain quality service, the Village issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) and received multiple bids. After careful review, Republic Services was selected as the lowest responsible bidder, offering the best balance of affordability, reliability, and customer service.
This transition allows the Village to continue offering dependable waste collection while responsibly managing public resources.
