QUALIFICATIONS

Probationary Applicants:
• Must be over 21 and under 35 (unless otherwise allowed by law)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid POWER Card at the time of testing
• Able to pass an extensive background investigation
• Must meet all standards required by statute, ordinance, and the East Alton Fire & Police Commission

Lateral Applicants:
• Must be over 21 (age limit exceptions per law)
• At least 24 months of full-time police experience in an ILETSB-accredited agency
• Able to pass an extensive background investigation
• Must meet all standards required by statute, ordinance, and the East Alton Fire & Police Commission

• Written Exam: December 20, 2025 at 9:00 AM
• Oral Interviews: December 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM

FIREFIGHTER

The Village of East Alton, Illinois is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of FIREFIGHTER.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be over 21 and under 35 years of age, unless otherwise provided by federal or state statutes
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Meet all standards as required by statutes, ordinance, and East Alton Fire & Police Commission regulations
• Capable of passing extensive background investigation
• Proof of current CPAT the day of oral interviews
• Must live within 20 linear miles of the corporate limits 1 year of date of hire

***IMPORTANT***

The Village of East Alton and the City of Wood River will be accepting applications to establish an initial eligibility list for the position of “Probationary Firefighter.” Applicants can select at the top of the application if they would like to test for both departments, East Alton only, or Wood River only.

It is important to review the additional informational packets for EACH department. They are very similar, but there are some differences. Each packet has additional forms that need to be read, signed, and returned with the application. Only one application is needed, even if you are applying for both departments. There will be one written test given for both departments. After the written test, the remaining process will be independent for each department. This will include separate oral examinations, preference points, and eligibility lists.

Make sure to download and print the entire application, and the instructions and informational material for the department you wish to apply for. If you wish to apply for BOTH departments, you will need to download and print the application and the information/instructional packets for BOTH departments.
